Action Alert: Tell Rep. Tim Spear to Vote to Override Perdue’s Veto of NC Healthcare Freedom Act

Gov. Bev Perdue has vetoed HB2, Protect Health Care Freedom, the bill both exempting North Carolinians from the individual mandate in the federal health care legislation and ordering Attorney General Roy Cooper to join the multistate lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law.

In order to override the Governor’s veto, the votes of three-fifths of House members (72) are needed. The Republicans hold 67 seats. Two Democrats already crossed party lines to vote in favor of the bill. That means three more Democrats will have to cross party lines in order to override Perdue’s veto.

Let’s tell Tim Spear to cross that party line. HB2 guarantees the freedom of North Carolinians to make their own health care decisions. Tell Tim Spear to stand up for our rights!

  1. I sent the following to our illustrious representative this morning so far without response.

    “Dear Representative Spear,

I understand that the Governor has again exercised her veto, this time of the above act. Sadly yet another demonstration of the Democrat position of repudiating the will of the people at every level, aided of course by her Democrat AG. You have shown yourself to be more of a pragmatist and so I hope that you will join others on this occasion to override that veto.

The people of North Carolina chose for the first time in nearly a century to elect a Republican State House and Senate yet the Governor and her cabal of cronies continually demonstrate their unwillingness to reach accommodation and to demonstrate the same arrogance and contempt for the people so plainly exhibited by their colleagues in Washington DC.

Once again I urge YOU to do the right thing and vote to override this snub to the electorate.”

If YOU write make sure he knows you are from Dare County.
