GOP budget barely touches health spending

House GOP appropriators unveiled a three-week stopgap spending bill Friday that barely touches the federal healthcare budget.

The measure proposes $6 billion in cuts, including $3.5 billion saved by reducing or terminating 25 programs. The continuing resolution would also slash $2.6 billion in earmarks.

As far as healthcare is concerned, the Republican budget proposal would slash $75 million from State Health Access Grants, a program that was terminated in President Obama’s budget request. Only 13 states receive funding through the program, which helps states expand coverage to uninsured people.

The CR also cuts $276 million in pandemic influenza funding, just as the president did in his budget request and Senate Democrats did in their most recent budget proposal.  Via TheHill.com
