GOP bill would halt fast rail in NC


As the state Department of Transportation gears up to spend $461 million in federal grants for beefed-up train service from Raleigh to Charlotte, some Republican legislators say North Carolina should send the money back to Washington instead.  Read more at NewsObserver.com

  1. Half a billion dollars to knock 15 minutes off the three hour trip from Charlotte to Raleigh. What’s in it for the rest of the state?

  2. High speed rail only makes sense in places that have dense urban populations who typically don’t own or use a car for work commute, etc. (our NE corridor or Japan/Europe) Works for them but not practical for us.

  3. We got rid of high speed rail from Obama here in Wisconsin. Hopefully your great state follows suit. What a waste of money. The annual maintenance fees are the real story behind the initial construction. High speed rail speeding is a train wreck and a real drain on the pocketbooks of taxpayers. Good luck!
