NC Lawmakers and Bureaucrats Continue to Ignore $2.5 Billion Debt to Feds

While North Carolina is prepared to make a hefty $78 million interest payment this week on money it’s borrowed to pay jobless benefits, the state remains in a holding pattern about how to pay the underlying tab that’s 30 times larger.  The state Legislature passed a law in March ordering what was supposed to be an expedited analysis of how the state can best go about eliminating a $2.5 billion debt owed to the federal government for helping bankroll individual unemployment claims.   Six months later, the study hasn’t begun.  Read more at
